GPA Calculation

​​ The Registration and Admission Department monitors and follows up posting of grades, semester GPA and the cumulative GPA for all students in the Student Information System (SIS). The posting process shall be carried out according to the following procedures:

  1. The (SIS) converts the final grade of each course into points and symbols as follows:

Grade Symbols

WE, AU, WP, W, I, P and IP do not affect the GPA but the  ​grade WF and DN do because they are equal to grade F. These grades are interpreted as follows:

WE (Withdrawn with Excuse):

This grade is awarded to a student whose excused and unexcused absence exceeds 10 % (33) of the course's contact hours of English I or English 11 due to hospitalization ( discharged sick leave is considered). This ratio will be 2 I 15 for the rest of the courses provided that a student is not given ON status during this period. It will not calculate within the period of staying at the college.

WE (Withdrawn with Excuse):

This grade is awarded to a student whose excused and unexcused absence exceeds 10 % (33) of the course's contact hours of English I or English 11 due to hospitalization ( discharged sick leave is considered). This ratio will be 2 I 15 for the rest of the courses provided that a student is not given ON status during this period. It will not calculate within the period of staying at the college.

W (Withdrawn):

This grade ​is awarded to a student for the courses he registered for the semester from which he withdraws from the college for good during the period between the beginning of the fourth 4th week and the end of the eight 8th of a regular semester, or between the beginning of the second 2nd week and the end of the third 3rd week in the summer session.

WP (Withdrawn with Pass):

This grade is awarded to a student for the courses he registered for the semester from which he withdraws from the college for good during the period from the beginning of week nine 9th and before the beginning of the last week of a regular semester, or between the period from the beginning of week four 4th and the beginning of the last week of the summer course provided the student's grades in the said courses should be at least ( 0 ) .

WF (Withdraw with Fail):

This grade is awarded to a student for the courses he registered for the semester from which he withdraws from the college for good during the period from the beginning of week nine 9th and before the beginning of the last week of a regular semester, or between the period from the beginning of week four and before the beginning of the last week of the summer course with F grade.

DN (Denial):

This grade ​​is awarded to a student if his absence in English I or English 11 exceeds (10 %) (33) Hrs of the total contact hours of the course. This ratio increases to 2/ 15 for any other courses.

I (Incomplete):

This grade is awarded to a student who, for reasons beyond his control, cannot complete the course requirements. The student has to meet the course requirements within a period of time limited by the end of the following semester to eliminate the I grade from his record, otherwise it will automatically be changed to ( F ) grade.

AU (Audit):

This grade is awarded to a student who registers courses as an auditor. It shall not be computed as part of the semester of cumulative GPA bearing in mind the regulations concerned.

P (Pass):

This grade is used to indicate that the student's performance in some courses has been satisfactory and may be awarded to the equivalent courses. IP (In-Progress): (In progress requirements) this grade is awarded to courses for which formal grades are not given because the academic work is still in progress e.g. research, thesis or training programs. The student has to eliminate this grade ​from his record within a period of time limited by the end of the following regular semester except training program the time limit is three weeks otherwise it will automatically be changed to (F) grade.

General Procedural Rule
  • A student will be considered as Pass if he obtains (D) grade. A student will not be considered as Pass in the English Course I and 11 until he obtains (C) grade in anyone of these courses.
  • A student will be allowed if his Cumulative GPA less than (2.00) in specialization to repeat a course in which he obtains (D) or (D+) grade in order to improve his GPA only. In such a case the old grade will be replaced by the new grade and the old grade will be kept in the student's record but it will not be included in the Earned Hours or in the Cumulative GPA.
  • A student who fails any of the compulsory courses has to repeat the course and sit the exam of the course, but if he fails an elective course, he will repeat that course or choose a substitute course with the approval of his academic advisor.
  • A student in Associate Degree level only, while studying in specialization can eliminate failure courses with grades (F, WF & DN) for (15) credit hours maximum, when he passed them at the time of G.P.A calculation. However, these failure courses will be retain on Student's Transcript.
