Introduction to Laboratory
Structural Materials Laboratory contributes mainly teaching activities in the Civil Engineering Department. It provides support in a wide range of specialized areas of structural materials analysis and testing to the students.
This includes: Consistency, Initial and Final Setting time of cement, Measurement of Workability of Concrete (Slump Test), Compressive Strength of Cement cubes, Fineness of Cement (Using Autoclave), Determination of Water Permeability of Concrete Cubes and Concrete mix design

 Compression testing machine for mortar Perform compression tests on portions of prism 40x40x160 mm, cubes side 40, 50, 70, 100 mm and 2"; cores with max. height of 180 mm

 Coarse Aggregate Sieve Shaker Particle size determination on large samples of aggregates, sand, gravel, slag, ores, wood chips and other coarse materials.

 Curing Tank The tank (Capacity 1000 L) can accommodate up to 64 cubes 150 mm side, or up to 48 cubes 200 mm side

 Autoclave (Soundness test apparatus) Determination of soundness of cement by autoclave method
|
 Vibrator for concrete cubes It is used for the compaction of concrete specimens in laboratory
|
 Compression and Flexural testing machine for concrete Compression tests on concrete cube, cylinder and block specimens and flexural tests on concrete beams
|
 Weighing balance It is used to measure weight of the specimen.
|
 Oven It is used for heating and drying of the specimen.
|
 Concrete Permeability Apparatus Perform water permeability tests on cubic concrete specimens max 150 mm side and cylinder specimens max 160 mm diameter.

 Mortar Mixer It is used to homogeneously combines cement, fine aggregate and water to form mortar.

 Concrete Mixer It is used to homogeneously combines cement, aggregates (coarse and fine) and water to form concrete
|
 Sieve Shaker It provides separation, fractioning, particle size determination
|
 Slump test apparatus for concrete workability It is used to measure the consistency and workability of fresh concrete, and indirectly, the water/cement ratio of the concrete mix.

 Vicat Apparatus It is used to determine consistency and initial/final set times of cements and mortar pastes
