JUBAIL INDUSTRIAL COLLEGE PREPARES ITS ASSOCIATE 

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS FOR ACCREDITATION BY TAC OF ABET, Inc 

Jubail Industrial College has launched its Accreditation operation that aims to obtain the international ABET Accreditation for its Engineering Technology Associate Degree Programs.  Accreditation is the assurance that a program meets the quality standards established by the profession for which it prepares its students.  It helps JIC to continually assess, evaluate and improve its curricula and courses (education and training services?) based on input and feedback from different constituencies to realize  its  mission of providing quality education and training in Engineering Technology.

To be accredited by the Technology Engineering Commission (TAC) of ABET, Inc., JIC programs must meet the nine TAC criteria which are: Students, Program Educational Objectives, Student Outcomes, Continuous Improvement, Curricula, Faculty, Facilities, Support and Program Criteria.

The accreditation consists of four main steps (stages?) which are:

• First: Submission of request for evaluation to ABET, Inc., Headquarters

• Second: Prepare the Self-Study Report for each program and submit it to the appropriate TAC of ABET.Inc., for review and eventual on-campus visit. 

• Third: On-campus visit, during which the ABET evaluators examine display materials, visit classes/laboratories/workshops, meet with students, faculty and administrators. 

• Fourth: Following the on-campus visit, each program evaluator submits a report to the appropriate TAC of ABET, Inc., for evaluation and final decision.

In order to prepare effectively the different programs for accreditation, JIC Management has decided to form the ABET Accreditation Committee which includes  JIC Managing Director as Chairman of the Committee and one faculty member from each academic department. The objective of the ABET Committee is to provide specialization departments with the necessary support, guidance and assistance in preparing effectively their Engineering Technology Programs for TAC of ABET, Inc.,  Accreditation.
