General Studies

The Department of General Studies is one of the   first educational departments to be in contact with the newly enrolled students in the College. The Department offers a balanced variety of programs which strengthen the students’ background and prepare them for specialization programs. It strives to create a caring environment where students’ needs and welfare are given prime consideration.

The major academic role of the Department is to provide students with knowledge and skills that will enable them to cope with the challenges of the specialization courses. Preparatory year students and specialization students are required to take specified General Studies courses which serve as preparation or support for their specialization studies.

The Department introduces the new students to the JIC’s practice of active learning via participation and involvement at all stages of the learning process. A key aspect of course planning is that the courses should be informative and useful in enabling the student to deal with difficulties in his future studies. All our courses  reflect the College's commitment to quality, based on well handled, thoughtful and efficient response to our students' needs.
